March 9–15: “The Lord Was with Joseph” (Genesis 37–41)

From a colorful coat and a deep pit to the heights of an Egyptian palace, we follow Joseph’s journey of resilience and revelation. We discover that being faithful doesn't mean life will be easy—it means that even in our hardest trials, 'the Lord was with us'.

Faith in the Fire

"Turn up the heat. Turn up the flame.
I’m walking through the fire, calling on His name."

Faith isn't just about avoiding hard times; it's about staying close to the Lord when things don't make sense. Like Joseph in the Egyptian dungeon, we can choose to keep our "light burning on the inside" even when our circumstances are dark.

Set the Stage: The Refining Process

Joseph was sold into slavery at 17 and spent 13 years in Egypt before his life changed. During that time, he was falsely accused and forgotten in prison. The Come, Follow Me manual reminds us that while the Lord didn't prevent these bad things, He never left Joseph’s side. Every trial was a "step" Joseph took to become the leader God needed him to be.

The Big Idea: God is With You
Joseph’s story is anchored by one powerful phrase: "The Lord was with Joseph". This didn't mean Joseph was rich or free; it meant he had peace and revelation. We learn that when we face adversity, God isn't punishing us—He is refining us like gold in a fire to bring out the power hiding inside.

Scripture Bridge

Genesis 39:2 "And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian."

Lyric Highlight

Gold in the Fire
"They might see a prisoner, lost in the dark
But God sees a fire, fanning the spark.
I’m not forgotten. I’m not alone.
He’s refining the heart, He’s polishing the stone."

Reflect: Joseph had every reason to feel forgotten in that dungeon, but he chose to look for ways to help others, like the Butler and Baker. How can helping someone else today help you feel that the Lord is still "with you" in your own challenges?

Family Activity

The Magnet Pull

Try This: Use two magnets to represent Jesus and temptation, and a paper clip to represent yourself. See how much stronger the pull is when you move the paper clip closer to the "Savior" magnet.

Reflect: Joseph "fled" from temptation to stay close to God. How does making small, good choices every day keep us "stuck" to the Savior’s power?
