Feb 16–22: “To Be a Greater Follower of Righteousness” (Genesis 12–17; Abraham 1–2)

From a small tent to an infinite legacy. This week, we step outside with Abraham to learn that God’s promises are bigger than our calculations—and that being a "child of the covenant" means we are never alone under the stars.

The Journey So Far
Last week, we watched Noah stay afloat by following a prophet’s blueprint. This week, we meet a man named Abraham who lived in a world still messy from the "babble" of the Tower. Abraham grew up in a "troubled family," but he had a desire for something more. He didn't just want to survive; he wanted "to be a greater follower of righteousness." Because he sought the Lord earnestly, God led him by the hand into a covenant that changed the world forever.

Abraham Looked Up

"I’m sitting in the tent, wondering where the time went...
But then the wind blows, the flap opens wide.
The Voice says: 'Abraham, step outside!'"

God doesn't want us to stay inside the "tent"
of our worries. He wants us to see the
panoramic picture of His plan.

Set the Stage: Thinking Too Small

Abraham and Sarah had a big problem: they wanted a family more than anything, but they were getting very old and had no children. From inside his tent, Abraham was "doing calculations" and "running out of patience." It felt impossible. But God didn't ask Abraham to look at his math; He asked him to look at the sky. He promised Abraham that his legacy would be as countless as the stars and the sand.

The Big Idea: Covenants Are a Relationship of Trust
A covenant isn't just a contract; it's an invitation to a relationship of trust. When we are baptized, we "step outside" our old lives and join Abraham’s family. God promises to lead us by the hand, just as He led Abraham. We might not see how every promise will come true yet, but we can trust the One who made the stars.

Scripture Bridge

Abraham 2:12 "Thy servant has sought thee earnestly; now I have found thee."

Lyric Highlight

Count the Stars
"He said: 'Leave the worry and the doubt behind'
He said: 'Open up your eyes and open up your mind'
Take a look at the velvet blue...
I got a legacy I’m giving to you!"

Reflect: Abraham was "counting his worries" inside his tent until the Lord invited him to "step outside" and count the stars instead. Is there a worry you can trade for a promise from the Lord today?

Family Activity

The 100-Star Challenge

Try This: Give your children a piece of paper and a yellow crayon/marker. Set a timer for 60 seconds and see if they can draw 100 stars.

Reflect: Was it hard to keep track? Imagine trying to count every star in the sky! That is how many people God wants to bless through you.

Listen & Watch

Count the Stars

Count the Stars starts with the syncopated stress of "calculations" in a tent and explodes into a soaring melody about the infinite nature of God’s promises.
